Look at Your Jeans

"Hey, look at your jeans."

It had taken about six weeks and several more washings to get them from him, because he just doesn't care if his pants don't puddle atop the vamps of his shoes. In fact, he doesn't care if his ankles are enjoying a breeze.

"I really like these jeans. Can't I keep them?"

Not wanting to damage the child and be blamed for every wrong decision he makes, every scrape he's had by the time he's 63 years old ["SHE TOOK MY JEANS!"], I conceded, telling him he wasn't to wear them in public.

But when it reached the point that snapping them at the waist created a labored breathing issue, he was ready to give them up. I washed them one more time and placed them in my closet...where apparently everything without a home decides to live. And that became a problem.

That was a problem, because I was wearing this sweater and thought those shoes would go seafoamy swell with the sweater. Wouldn't you agree?

I had to have the shoes, and they weren't in the shoe hanger. This meant they were somewhere on the floor, so it also meant I was going to have to dig to find them. In the process of digging, I set the sewing machine on the floor in the kitchen, which was simple enough, since my closet is in the kitchen. I lifted bags, moved crates, rifled across shelves, and came up with one shoe. One. Since I have two feet, and I wasn't in the mood to empty and reorganize my entire closet, I slammed my feet into a pair of loafers and gave up on the search...but not before I'd grabbed those jeans and tossed them onto the kitchen table.

"What are you doing?" asked Charles, when he happened upon the scene.

"I'm making a purse."

"Are you just making it up as you go?" he asked, as I turned the jeans first one way, then another, scissored here, sewed there, then would stare pensively at the results of each new snip and seam.

"Yep."

As I was unplugging the sewing machine and wrapping the cord, right on cue, Son4 came back into the house, taking a break from whatever it is Son4s do outdoors.

"Hey, look at your jeans."

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. ~1 Timothy 6:6-8

Love that purse.. I have been thinking of make a few of them from the boys pants. Did you make the belt.. or was it something you had?

Had the belt on hand and wear no belts on my (ex-)waist, so it was great to be able to put it to use somehow. You and the girls certainly do need to snatch the boys' pants as they shed them. ºÜº
