Linguistics

Son3 was expressing his sometimes confusion over the spellings of whether and weather.

"I've been going around with your older siblings over this for years. If you'd say the words right, you wouldn't have any trouble spelling them."

"The dictionary says both pronunciations are correct: hweth-er and weth-er," he replied.

"Yes, that is what the dictionary says today. Over the years, our language has become mangled. Listen, when I was 5 years old, there wasn't any question at all about how to pronounce (h)whether, (h)what,
(h)when, (h)where, (h)why," I said, emphasizing the breathy "h" in the pronunciations. "And we didn't have any problems spelling the words."

"Yeah, but people thought the world was flat back then, too...and weren't they still bleeding people?"

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. ~Galatians 3:26
